for Pretty Pinwheels Hourglass Block Instructions
To make one Hourglass block:
Pair up two different 7½”
fabric squares, right sides together.
(Note: the Magazine instructs you to start with a 7¼” square. This should be
fine as long as you can trim the resulting Hourglass block down to 6”.)
Draw a diagonal line,
corner to corner. See Figure 1 (attached).
Sew ¼” on each side of the
line.
Cut on the diagonal line.
Open the cut sections and
press towards the darker side. This creates two half block units.
Pair up two different half
blocks, right sides together. Align the seams so that they both go in the
same direction. See Figure 2 (attached).
Draw a diagonal line corner
to corner, opposite to the seam (line and seam will create an X). See Figure
3 (attached).
Sew ¼” on each side of the
drawn line.
Cut on the drawn line.
Open the cut sections and
press towards the darker side. This creates Hourglass square units.
Trim Hourglass units to
6”.
Fuse a 3 ½” black circle in
the center of the Hourglass square.
